Oscars 2022: 360 Live Streaming From The Red Carpet, Backstage & More

The 94th Academy Awards were… eventful. While certain stories hit the headlines, here’s a cool one you might have missed.

To give viewers an immersive experience, Verizon put together a 360 live streaming experience from the Oscars 2022 ceremony, using a series of Insta360 Pro 2 cameras. From the red carpet, to the press room, to backstage, the aim was to give an unprecedented level of access to one of the biggest cultural events of the year.

Organizers positioned a total of seven Insta360 Pro 2 cameras in various locations around the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, where the awards ceremony took place.

Using Verizon 5G technology, the view from these cameras was streamed live to the Verizon 5G portal, with viewers then able to customize their own experience of the event. Viewers could also enter to win prizes by sharing their “most starstruck” moments on Twitter

Streaming over the 5G network meant the live stream data could be sent with a low latency, delivering this special experience right to people’s devices in close to real time.

This type of immersive live stream may well become the norm for significant cultural events like the Academy Awards. Fans also enjoyed a 360 live streaming experience of the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show earlier this year, as well as last year’s NFL Pro Bowl, all shot using Insta360 Pro 2
