Insta360 released today an extensive update to their desktop editing software, Insta360 Studio. The update introduces a brand new user interface, promising an easier and more intuitive editing workflow.
The update follows an extensive update to the Insta360 app last month, demonstrating Insta360’s continued commitment to improving the user experience of their cameras and software.
The free update is available to download from Insta360’s website and is compatible with all Insta360 consumer action cameras, including Insta360 ONE R, ONE X2, GO 2 and ONE X. The update is available for Windows and Mac OS computers, and also boasts full compatibility with M1 Macs.
Easier Importing
From the start of the editing process, improvements are already noticeable for users. Now when users connect their Insta360 camera to their computer, Insta360 Studio will automatically recognize the camera and prompt users to select individual files or import all files saved on the SD card at once. No more wasted time locating files and importing them into the software.
Once imported, the files will now appear in a sidebar on the left of the interface with three different preview options, including a new thumbnail preview option for a large view of each file’s content. Users can also filter the files by saved location and favorite files for easier access.
Easier Editing and Project Management
Editing camera footage with Insta360 Studio is now easier too, especially reframing 360 footage with keyframes. Now when users click the timeline to add a keyframe, a new window will pop up showing options to adjust the pan angle, tilt angle, roll angle, FOV and distance.
The video timeline has also been revamped, displaying a thumbnail preview when hovering over the timeline. Buttons for tracking targets (Deep Track), adjusting the video speed (TimeShift) and adding motion blur are now easier to find as well.
On the right sidebar, a new “Project Management” panel is available for editing and saving different versions of the same raw files simultaneously. Users can both clone an edited video or start a new project from the raw file.
Users can now undo operations by clicking the undo icon or pressing ⌘Z, as well as redo operations.
Easier Exporting
Once users are done with their edit, exporting is now easier as well. Users can save their preferred export settings (e.g. resolution, bitrate and encoding format) as a preset for easier access in the future.
Users can now also add exports to a queue, so they can wait to export until they’ve finished all of their edits, and then export together all at once. That means less wasted time in between edits and a smoother exporting experience all together.

This is great. Since many of us use iPad Pro can you make the same functions operate for the iPad Pro?
We have an update coming very soon that allows for editing using the iPad.
When will the desktop app contain ALL the features of the mobile app?
We’re working towards bringing our Studio and Insta360 app closer together. We can’t give an exact timeline for when all the features will be added to the studio, but we are working on adding app features to the studio.
FANTASTIC QUESTION
I need to app download
Hi Ismail, sorry we’re not sure what you mean by this? Let us know and we can try and help you out.
Maybe I’m missing something but is there an autoedit function for the desktop much like the mobile app? Camera being used is an x3 and OS for the desktop is windows based
Hi Tim, it depends what you mean exactly by “autoedit function” but if you’re referring to the Shot Lab templates in the mobile app, then unfortunately those are not available when editing in Insta360 Studio.
WHY,WHY,WHY ONE QUESTION, WHY
why my insta 360 x 3 editing software is different than what i see in youtube? its defend on country?
Can we have the AI editing features on the desktop 360 studio as well? All the shot lab templates would be much faster on pc/mac.
Cheers for the feedback Michael. Always super useful to get these messages so we know what people are interested in. Will pass this onto our developers and update on our social channels if we make any changes.
Yes I second this!
Is the zoom funxtion available in the desktop version?
I can’t find it,,maybe its me🙈
Hi Ruby, depends what you mean by zoom exactly but one basic way to zoom if we’ve understood you correctly is to simply swipe on the trackpad of your laptop or use the scroll wheel on a mouse. But let us know if that’s not what you mean and we’ll figure it out!
When will the features of the mobile insta360 app come to the desktop app like shot lab and other AI editing features? It would be great for us to do it in pur desktop instead pls.
Hi Chris, had a few people requesting this so you’re not the only one. We’ll pass along your feedback to the development team and make an announcement if there are any updates.
This app falls short given that it doesn’t have any of the AI features that are included in the mobile app. I think that should be a priority for Insta360 to add to Studio. At the moment the desktop app is very disappointing.
Thanks for your feedback, Gordon. We will urge the developers to bring Insta360 Studio up to par with our mobile app. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Good day, I downloaded the Studio 2023 onto my Windows 10 laptop for editing, however there is little to none in editing features and nothing like the Insta360 Videos, am I missing something as there are no icons on the video preview screen and only about of the right side panel.
What I am saying there is nothing like the tutorial of example fish eye, stablization etc and all there is on the right side panel is only media processing 3 settings and project management to call it project1,2 etc.
it has made things difficult as I need to edit the video for a client.
Hi Ian, make sure you download the latest version of Studio. Here is the link: https://www.insta360.com/download
If that doesn’t work for you please contact our support team at [email protected].
2023 – Is not possible to have all the effect from mobile app on Desktop app? I’m very disappointed with insta360 desktop app. The bests apps are in mobile app! You guys need to put them on desktop app too!
Thanks for your feedback, Rafael. We will urge the team to work on this.
After reading everything here I still have not figured out how to zoom in/ out with the desktop app (no mouse on my laptop); I can do it on the iPhone, but not on my laptop 🙁
Hi Taggi, you can zoom in/out on 360 footage in Insta360 Studio. Use your computer’s touchpad to zoom in/out, or click the plus sign under your footage to add a keyframe and set the zoom level.
why is editing is so limitles on 360? cant cut out small sections from numerous videos and make it in one long video!!!! go pro softwere way better but realy would like to stay with insta 360. fix it please.
Thanks for your feedback. We will urge our colleagues to continue working to make Insta360 Studio more on par with our mobile app.
the desktop studio is lacking almost all of the editing features found on android app. this is BS. if have done better homework/research on this it’s a deal breaker. I don’t want to use mobile app to do all the cool editings, not everyone has the ultra plus max pro ultimate phone with 5TB storage. It’s much better to do it on desktop. but this desktop studio app is a lemon. No wait, that’s an insult to lemons.
Other comments on this super-nerfed desktop studio app was in 2022. WHEN/any effort being made to UNnerf the desktop app? jeez… the desktop app so useless it’s so frustrating.
Sorry for the frustration. We are always working to improve our software and will make sure your feedback is relayed to the software team. The majority of our users edit with our mobile app, so that is the reason it has been prioritized. But we know we can’t leave our PC users behind. Cheers.
I have a Insta 360 X3 I cant get it to go wide screen it always have the circles how do I change that
