All-New Insta360 GPS Action Remote for Easier Camera Control

3 min read

Insta360 today announces an all-new, improved GPS Action Remote.

The new remote features the ability to overlay live GPS data onto Insta360 action cam footage, with unified data from three networks. It replaces the previous GPS Smart Remote, with some key upgrades.

Bluetooth 5.0 has been implemented into the remote, adding the ability to now remotely wake up Insta360 cameras from a powered-off state, and control multiple cameras simultaneously. Designed for rugged conditions, it is also IPX8 waterproof and comes with two mounting bands for use on handlebars or the wrist.

The ultimate accessory for adrenaline chasers, the remote helps make shooting amid high-intensity action a breeze. Mountain bikers, surfers, hang gliders, or even hitting the road — this is the accessory that you won’t want to leave behind.

The Insta360 GPS Action Remote is available now via the Insta360 store globally.

Insta360's all new gps action remote is out now.

Stronger connection, reliable coverage

Utilizing GLONASS, BD, and GPS networks in unison, the upgraded remote now has a stronger and more reliable connection. This means that even when deep in the mountains, or riding through a trail, your journey will be tracked with high accuracy.

The new Bluetooth 5.0 functionality also allows for expanded options when shooting. The upgrades to the remote mean it can now communicate with an Insta360 camera up to 65ft (20m) away. If you’re planning a still shot or need to shoot something carefully from a distance, this is the answer! Combined with the ability to remotely wake up an Insta360 camera from a powered-off state, and support for X3’s QuickCapture feature, there are plenty of possibilities here.

With the remote, there’s no need to record with your phone to get GPS stats data. Simply import your footage after shooting into the app, then overlay stats like speed, elevation, and more onto your video in a tap. These stats can add an extra punch to action footage and keep viewers engaged.

The gps action remote is compatible with insta360's latest camera, x3.

Mounting bands for more options

The new remote now comes with two mounting bands, giving you the flexibility to mount it either horizontally or vertically. Whether you’re hitting the road or trail by bike, the mounting solution allows you to easily attach the remote to your bike. If you’d prefer to have it on you at all times, the wrist mount option will have you ready to shoot anything.

The gps action remote can be mounted in a variety of ways.

Available now

The Insta360 GPS Action Remote is available now via our store globally and retails for $79.99. It currently is compatible with Insta360 X3 and ONE RS, with support for the ONE X2 coming soon.

Hi Rob, no the GPS Action Remote isn’t compatible with our professional cameras. For Pro 2 we’d recommend using Farsight: https://store.insta360.com/product/farsight
With this you can get live preview and shoot remotely with a 300 meter range!

    Beautiful small remote, nice update.

To bad it doesn’t have a microphone for sound recording, would be so handy, for instance, have your camera mounted outside the vehicle and record the sound inside the vehicle, on your bike and the remote/microphone covered from wind, or crisp sound of your voice. A all in one solution.

I have insta360 x3, can I use GPS Remote action to get Gpx for uploading video to Google street view? when I record with Insta360 x3 the Gps is not included? If I buy a GPS Remote Action you think the problem disappear?

Hi there, if you shoot with X3 via the Insta360 app on your phone then GPS data will be included, just make sure you’ve given the Insta360 app permission to access your location in the phone settings. Alternatively, yes if you shoot with the GPS Remote then you’ll have the GPS data. And when you’re done shooting you can upload the video to Google Street View via the Insta360 app.

Hi, I’m using insta360 x3 and GPS action remote. I tried to record movies with GPS action remote sometimes, but I never get GPS data.
And I can’t find any menu or button to upload the video to Google Street View in insta360 app (iOS).

Are there any special settings to get GPS data? If you have instructions about GPS and Google Street View please let me know.

I’ve had the GPS Action Remote for a couple weeks now. Its worked great until I tried to power it on today. It won’t seem to power on, its charged, and when its plugged into the charger the screen comes on illustrating that its connected and charging. Is there a way to reset the remote ot some other way to power it on?

Hi tried switching off – it’s possible but unable to switch the X3 back on again. It says awakening camera and stays like that. Need to manual start the camera. Am I doing something wrong? Where can I download a copy of the manual? Is there a video on how to set up the on and off feature with the remote?

Hi there, sorry you’re still having trouble with the remote. Once you’ve successfully paired the remote and the camera, it should be possible to wake up the camera but you need to first go to the settings on the camera’s touchscreen and toggle on “Bluetooth Wakeup”. There’s a full video tutorial for this accessory on our support page where it shows how to do this: https://www.insta360.com/support/supportdetail?name=x3
I’ll also have the customer service team send you over a PDF version of the product manual.
Hope this helps you sort the issue!

I bought this remote, but there is a problem with charging. After about 10-15 minutes, it stops taking a charge. You have to reconnect the cable.
